ISTE CEO, Richard Culatta, Visits L.A. Unified

 Culatta- MASE The Instructional Technology Initiative (ITI) invited Richard Culatta, CEO of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), to visit L.A. Unified and witness the instructional technology strides the District has made thus far. During his two-day visit on May 17th and 18th, Culatta served as guest speaker for the ITI Task Force meeting held on Thursday evening, where over 50 attendees gathered to discuss ways to reimagine learning and teaching. For example, he urged L.A. Unified educators to rethink digital citizenship practices, focusing on how we can support students  to be active collaborators online. On Friday morning, Culatta Task Force -Culatta keynoted the Elementary Principals’ Organization (EPO) Meeting, inviting principals to leverage the ISTE Standards for Students to help them meet their curricular goals in ways that are effective, meaningful, and relevant to today’s digital student. During his visit, Culatta also had the opportunity to connect with teachers and students at Maywood  Center for Enrichment Studies and San Pasqual STEAM Magnet. L.A. Unified was the first district in the nation to adopt the 2016 ISTE Standards for Students and has a partnership with ISTE to ensure instructional technology efforts are founded in promising practices.
