“Introducing the Instructional Technology Initiative (ITI) Exemplars Model”
by Vanessa Monterosa, Ed.D. Program & Policy Development Specialist
Convened in April 2015, the ITI Task Force set out to collectively develop a vision for instructional technology practices District-wide. Weekly meetings over the course of a year among parents, students, teachers, principals, and community partners culminated in the ITI Task Force Recommendations report published in June 2016. The ITI Task Force Recommendations put forth District stakeholders’ best thinking around personalized learning grounded in the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards and the U.S. Department of Education’s National Education Technology Plan. A critical feature of the ITI Task Force Recommendations was that it represented the collective voice of stakeholders from across the District, and ITI was committed to collecting and curating L.A. Unified examples that would bring the Recommendations to life.
Today, the ITI Exemplars Model launches, which features exemplary learning experiences captured by L.A. Unified educators demonstrating the continuum of personalized learning. The ITI Exemplars Model is an iterative, dynamic curation of instructional examples from the across the District featuring school leaders engaging in personalized learning. Through this model, educators can explore instructional practices that demonstrate key frameworks such as the ISTE Standards, the Substitution/Augmentation/Modification/Redefinition (SAMR) Model, and the ITI Task Force Recommendations.
