Managing Student Devices
Now that digital devices have become a central part of our instruction, one of the greatest issues can be figuring out how to manage the tech-infused classroom. Some of the most prevalent questions we face are:
How do you keep students engaged and on task now that they have access to the digital world at their fingertips? How do we maintain devices clean and safe? And how do you compete with your most tech-savvy students?
Although the answer to these questions will vary depending on your staff and students, here is a suggestion that might assist your school in starting a conversation about appropriate use and expectations of digital learning devices.
Create a sense of value:
A good method to keep devices in good condition is by creating a sense of value around them. Have a conversation with your students about what a privilege is to have a device. Many other schools in the district do not have the same privilege as they do. If students see that we value devices and that we will hold them accountable, they will undoubtedly take more responsibility for keeping their device in good condition.
